About the Speakers

Patricia Lizarraga

Managing Partner of Hypatia Capital Group

Patricia Lizarraga is the managing partner of Hypatia Capital Group, a private equity and investment banking firm focused on sponsoring female CEOs and diverse management teams.  She is responsible for the organization’s strategy of sponsoring female CEOs, as well as originating proprietary private equity transactions.  She has over 25 years of merchant banking experience, as well as is a founder of several successful companies.  Ms. Lizarraga founded the Grupo del Ande in 1997 and is a founding and Investment Committee member of Sigma SAFI, an asset manager with over $400 million AUM of primarily middle-market fixed income investments.  Prior to founding Hypatia Capital, she was the Managing Director of Credit Agricole Securities’ New York mergers & acquisitions group. She started her merchant banking career at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.    She has also served as the President of the Privatization Committee of the Toll Roads of Peru. Ms. Lizarraga is the President of the Board of Directors of the Diller-Quaile School of Music, as well as a Trustee for the Museum of Art of Lima, Peru.

Ms. Lizarraga received her Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Yale University and her Master of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School.

Alan Mantel

Partner at Snow Phipps

Alan Mantel has been a Partner of Snow Phipps since the inception of the Firm. Prior to the formation of Snow Phipps, Mr. Mantel was a Partner of Guggenheim Merchant Banking. Previously, Mr. Mantel was a Managing Director in the Leveraged Finance department at Credit Suisse. Mr. Mantel held a similar position at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Inc. prior to its merger with Credit Suisse. Previously, Mr. Mantel was a Senior Accountant and Certified Public Accountant at Ernst & Young LLP.

Mr. Mantel received an M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Chicago and a B.S. in Accounting from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany. He currently serves on the boards of EnviroFinance Group, Velocity Commercial Capital, ZeroChaos, Velvet and HCTec Partners. Mr. Mantel also serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board of SUNY at Albany Business School.

Pang Zhang-Whitaker

Counsel for Dorsey & Whitney

Pang Zhang-Whitaker has extensive domestic and international legal experience.

Pang represents Fortune 500 companies, middle market enterprises and private equity firms in cross-border and domestic transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, securities and general commercial transactions. Pang not only handles transactions ranging from small-cap venture capital financings to multi-billion dollar acquisitions, buy also guides clients on regular legal issues as their outside general counsel.

Pang regularly counsels domestic and international clients on a wide variety of legal matters, such as corporate finance, licensing, corporate governance and global compliance.  She handles a variety of inbound and outbound matters involving China, where she assists U.S.-based clients in legal matters related to their operations and dispute resolution in China, and supports Chinese companies in a wide variety of investment activities in the United States.  She advised the Chinese National People’s Congress in connection with the revision of Chinese Contract Law and advised the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on current developments in M&A in western countries.

In addition to her corporate transactional work, Pang has also assisted global insurance companies and other institutions in overseeing and managing their litigation and dispute resolution matters in domestic and international jurisdictions.

Pang also has significant in-house experience with global organizations in the pharmaceuticals and insurance industries.
